Sarah McCullough

Mrs. John McCullough, aged 83 years, died Monday night at her home, 2 miles south on the Newville Road.  The funeral will take place to-day at 1 o'clock.  Mrs. McCullough has been a resident of this city and vicinity for over sixty years.  She is a sister of Jacob Hammer, ex-postmaster of Mansfield, who held his position under three administrations.

A more thorough obituary appeared in the following week's paper, dated 09 April 1885, as follows:

Mrs. Sarah McCullough departed this life March 30th., after a short illness of less than two days.  She was one of the earlier settlers of Mansfield, came in her youth from Hagerstown, Maryland, residing in Mansfield for several years;  them moved to the country where she lived for over 51 years.  Her recollection of earlier events were quite vivid, and she could give an interesting account of many things of her time.  She was a faithful wife and mother, having taken care of her husband for twenty years, who was an invalid.

Mother McCullough was united with the Lutheran Church at the age of 16 years, of which she had been a constant member to the time of her death.  Her remains were interred in the Mansfield Cemetery, April 1st., her obsequies being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Dr. Wiles ...
