MR. JACOB CLABERG, who recently retired from the office of County Commissioner, died at his late home in Butler township on Monday at 9 A.M. He was formerly and for many years a Justice of the Peace in that township and as a citizen and neighbor was highly esteemed.
The HERALD had additional information about the death of Mr. Claberg in the issue of April 19th., 1883, as follows:
Jacob Claberg, late Commissioner of Richland County, died at his home near Lafayette, Butler Twp., Richland County, on the 2nd. inst. and in the 70th. year of his age. Mr. C. was born near Lancaster, Fairfield Co., Ohio, and has lived in this county since 1816. His death was sudden, yet not unexpected by himself or friends.
He was for some years previous to his death afflicted with disease of the heart, which disorder was doubtless the immediate cause of his death. Thus is one, respected and honored by all, torn from our fond embrace. The widow, four sons, one daughter, many friends and a stricken church mourn their loss.
Father C. was a man of sterling worth and unswerving integrity, kind as a husband, indulgent as a father, a true friend, an honored citizen and worthy member of the church of his choice. He served his county for one term in the office of County Commissioner and declined to accept a second nomination on account of failing health. He leaves to his family and many friends a worthy example and an untarnished name.
Appropriate memorial services were held in the M.E. Church in Lafayette, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jas. Torbet, assisted by Rev. F.S. Wolfe, pastor of the M.E. Church at Windsor, and Rev. Roomfield, pastor of the Christian church in Butler; after which his remains were tenderly laid to rest in the quiet church yard near by.
